help needed re the science of washing machines and washing powder
This is in the off topic forum so no abuse necessary . Now last night I was wondering about washing machines and powder as one does. On the soap packets it says xxx mls for front loader for one wash yyy mls for top loader etc, but it does not specify the size of the machine like 7 kg or 14 kgs etc, nor does it suggest that less soap may be necessary for example if one was only washing four socks.

My question is this, is it that the amount of water used in these machines (which I imagine remains constant for every wash) is what determines the amount of soap to add regardless of how many clothes there are in there or the size of the machine for that matter?

Or are they just trying to get you to use as much soap as possible?

It's not the science that's important, it's how you apply it that matters.

You should use bleach and not washing powder gets your whites whiter

Apparently the Romans used to wash their clothes with piss.

Just add a couple of flux capacitors and a bit of inventive programming and you'll get a machine that doesn't need powder.

It transports the dirty clothes to the factory and new ones from there to your house.

Not sure how it's going work when all the clothes companies go bust, though.

One of the worst jobs under the Romans was spending all day up to your knees in other people's piss, trampling other people's clothes.

Although it had a lot of competition.
